Frequently Asked Questions
If you’ve suffered a work-related injury or occupational disease, you may qualify for one of the four main disability compensation programs offered by the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP). Our trusted providers assist Federal Employees with prompt treatment and guidance through the OWCP claims process. Being treated by a provider familiar with OWCP procedures and DOL-OWCP requirements helps you get faster, more accurate claim approval with fewer delays.
How do I file a claim with CA-1 or CA-2?
To file a claim under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA), use Form CA-1 (for Traumatic Injury) or CA-2 (for Occupational Disease). Some agencies may require you to file OSHA-301 before submitting a FECA claim.
After submitting your claim to OWCP, you’ll get a case number and an informational letter detailing how to check your claim status and billing through the Claimant Query System (CQS).
You can upload documents related to your case via ECOMP’s Document Upload feature on their homepage once you have a case number.
What is CA-1?
- CA-1 is used to report a traumatic injury and request continuation of pay or compensation.
- Upon submission, OWCP assigns your case a number and sends a letter with details on tracking your claim.
- You can upload additional documents to your case through ECOMP’s Document Upload feature.
What is CA-2?
Use CA-2 to report an occupational disease caused by workplace conditions over time. Occupational diseases develop over more than one workday or shift.
You must submit a CA-1 within 30 days of injury, and if disabled, submit medical evidence to your agency within 10 workdays to claim benefits.
What is the difference between CA-1 and CA-2?
- CA-1 covers traumatic injuries from a single event during one shift.
- CA-2 covers occupational diseases developing over multiple shifts.
What will I need to file?
- An ECOMP account (register with your email)
- Your government agency’s information
- Your supervisor’s email address
- Details about the injury or illness event (time, place, extent of injury)
- Supporting documentation such as medical reports, if available
Submitting Forms
Before submitting forms on ECOMP, you must create an account. From your Employee Dashboard, you can start, save, and submit forms.
Incomplete forms appear as “DRAFT” and won’t be processed until completed. You can attach supporting documents to your claim forms.
After submission, your supervisor reviews the form and then a reviewing official in your agency. If there are questions, your form may be returned for revision, appearing as “Returned to Filer” on your Dashboard.
You’ll receive email updates, and can track your submission status online.
